One random spread from my storybook called "A Bumpy Ride" Basically it's a story told by a rock that gets kicked and tumbled and tossed about, traveling the world and experiencing life from, literally, every nook and cranny.

I actually really am excited about this book and I'd like to paint the whole thing this summer, I kinda put myself in it, I've been fighting my own personal battle for the past few years. I think that the more you've dealt with pain & taken a beating from life but you hang in there, it makes you stronger and gives you character.

Sometimes I hear people complaining about "cute" and "girly" artwork not having any merit. I don't think doing this is any easier than anything else I've done. This painting alone took 8-9 hours to do straight. Just make stuff that makes you happy! I personally like to laugh (you know, surprisingly some people don't!), and I like my heart to feel warm, so I'm gonna make cute things that make me happy, tough nuts. Students, especially in the BFA, tend to enjoy ripping other peoples' styles apart just to make themselves feel better, and that's really unfortunate. If you have your own style and you put love and effort into what you make, it's beautiful <3

hola! it's been an ultra busy spring semester, but I assure you, many things are being done!

I'm working on a new storybook that I'm actually really excited about, but for right now I'll keep what it's about a surprise ;)

anyhoo, here's a digital painting I did!

I love underwater scenes so much, this was fun to paint, I want to try more like this! I bought a big pad of pastel paper and brand new prismacolor soft pastels so I can't wait to experiment, I like the texture a bunch.

this is the first time I ever sat down to really do a digital painting, and it's not as easy as it looks.

this image is inspired by a picture I took of Jes two years ago for a photography assignment, she looked really pretty so I kept it as a reference if I ever wanted to use it again, thanks girl! I've also been looking at Sam Weber's art a lot and I just love the way he paints people.

been busy lately doing a whole lot of things I can't recall right now, but one of those things includes college, which just started a week ago! But that's not important, not at all.

I'm so very ready for fall, and if you know someone else that thinks they're more ready for fall than I am, then you're wrong! I've been ready since July! I've been to this tiny old lady thrift store a million times(approx.) this summer, but my last trip was most successful! I bought this weird 80s take on a 40s jumpsuit (which I sadly don't have pictures of), but what weirds me out is that EVERY TIME I buy any item of clothing from the thrift store, it fits like a glove when I try it on at home (there are no fitting rooms). I'm a huge sucker for velvet, I wanna bathe in it.

I bought this kinda sexy 90s velvet wiggle dress with mesh cutouts on the front AND back, I have no clue where I'd wear this, but for $1, and for something that fits amazingly perfect I have to wear it somewhere:

this is also my third velvet dress from the same thrift store, and every time I've bought one, one of the ladies working there tells me a story like "when I was in high school in the 60s I wore a dress exactly like that on a date with my boyfriend!" it's really adorable. and psst! for halloween I've begun making my costume, me and my friends are gonna be going to the Old Bethpage Village Restoration on long island hopefully to celebrate my birthday, which basically means that the whole town, including the townspeople, will be recreating an 1800s halloween! we're gonna be The Sanderson Sisters, I'm Mary :)

I put them up in the shop pictureposy.etsy.comfor sale, I really enjoy making these so my next venture is to make them in different colors, yay!

so yesterday was an absolute dream come true, I've been in la la land ever since. I went to my first real concert, and what better concert than She & Him at Terminal 5 in NYC! AND I love them so much that I kind of made my date wait with me for 2 hours before the show to get on line, and thanks to loads of patience, persistence, and perspiration, WE WERE FRONT ROW. I held onto that railing with dear life because I wasn't going anywhere.

Zooey was extremely adorable (as expected), and M. Ward was so into the music and insane on the guitar, it was one of the best experiences of my life. The crowd was really great and I was next to some guy who was cheesin' and pinching himself if it was all real like me. I was SO close that I could see a loose thread on the hem of Zooey's dress, and M. Wards sweat! AND YES, ZOOEY IS PLAYING AN ELECTRIC UKELELE.

poor Zooey was trying to work with an out of tune keyboard, but she sang and played flawlessly.

My camera's quite temperamental, sometimes it has amazing focus like a professional camera, but then it takes what appears to be an awkward family photo of louise brooks, some 60s spaceage model, enid and I, like this that looks like it's from a disposable. One of the reasons why some people don't like sleeping in my room (except my Dad because my mattress' comfort outweighs the creepitude) is because of all the people, mainly cute short haired brunettes and creepy little girls painted by Tama , staring back at them. Good thing I don't let any pedophiles in my room, or in my house for that matter.

Today I hung out with some friends and we had a BBQ and campfire, and then drove down to the beach at night and sat on the top of my friend's convertible and watched the fireworks, I'd say it was an awesome day :)

I've been watching a lot of saved by the bell lately, can you tell? I really like this dress, it's so happy! it's got tulle underneath so the skirt is super poofy too.

My hairs grown a bit from last year, well a lot actually, it can be kinda mullet-y sometimes, but I don't hate it (probably because of saved by the bell)? I also really enjoy matching my lipstick to my outfits, almost exactly.

today's a lazy day, thank god! I haven't had time for myself at all lately these days, I've been out and about every single day this week. I'm totally feelin' this summer, hellz yes

I've been having buttloads of fun so far, summer's pretty schnazzy I'm enjoyin this :). So far I've made a pie from scratch with my best bud, a cherry pie, and couldn't stop singing "she's mahhh cherry piee!" Went out to Southold on sunday on a hurricane watch (oops!) for my friend's birthday, and we walked to this private beach near the house. So the whole "wind in the hair beach look"? yeah doesn't work for me, but I wanna collect loads of sea glass and shells and make mermaid jewelry this summer! I already found a million beautiful orange iridescent seashells that are going to be put to good use :)

also I think I should get some kind of award because since the painting is too big for my scanner, I spent an hour scanning this in 7 pieces and attaching it all seamlessly in photoshop. all for you blog!

My head will always be in a fantasy world because of all the awesome things I've watched as a kid, they've still stuck in my head all these years because frankly, I'm obsessed. Everything I buy usually reminds me of one of my favorite characters from something, or has some ridiculous cartoon-y aspect to it which I love (If I was ever on What Not to Wear, they'd probably think I was nuts). Everyone knows that I love Batman and the Justice League, but my favorite gadgetry has to be on Sailor Moon and Totally Spies.

Totally Spies is extremely girly, and I love it. They have some of the coolest gadgets ever and I want all of them! Sadly, it's not that hugely popular of a show so there aren't many toys for it :(

scanner watches and com-powders, jetpack-backpacks, laser lipsticks, and really cute uniforms. Everything is pink and purple and has hearts and flowers, haha

Nothing tops Sailor Moon though, it is the girliest most badass-ly romantic fighting show. I love everything about it, the whole group of heroines and villains are all so different and cool. And since Sailor Moon is extremely popular everywhere, they have SO MUCH AWESOME MERCHANDISE. They're rare and not cheap because they've been out of production for like 10 years. I bought a light up locket on ebay and I'm so excited, I've wanted one ever since I was 6.

sailor moon herself had the best transformation lockets ever, and I love how everyone's transformation item would change from season to season

fun fact: ever since I was little and watched this show, I've shaped my nails super nicely just like theirs, every time.

I spent the day with some awesome pallies, I visited my friend Julia Goolia and planned a picnic for monday, a fancy dress or whatever picnic (meaning we can wear a fancy dress, or whatever we want, like my godzilla kigurumin perhaps...).
Then I went to my friend Zach's house and watched Ratatouille with some lovely folk, sat on farting chairs, set spiders aflame (James!), and played Buzz Word, as I failed miserably.

I'm planning on going to Six Flags soon, and I need to figure out the perfect outfit! One that I won't boil in, will be comfortable to walk a lot in, and preferably has pockets. I think I'm gonna have to revamp something I already own, haha!
